Alec Empire, in addition to being an outstanding musician who has made a unique contribution to the evolution of contemporary music, is also an exceptional record producer, remixer, and DJ. In a time when overhyped bands are dying like flies barely one record into their careers, Alec travels his own path with a determination and a sonic vision rarely seen amongst today’s musicians.
He started the band Atari Teenage Riot, the revolutionary outfit like no other, which made charged political statements and even started riots.
Alec has worked with an astonishing variety of musicians. From the likes of Bjork, Einsturzende Neubauten, Jon Spencer, Rammstein, Thurston Moore from Sonic Youth, Slayer and many more…
He has toured with Nine Inch Nails, Rage Against The Machine, Beck, and the list goes on like a Christmas present list. He’s ticked most boxes on the Achievement’s List, toured the world, received a Kerrang Award, and has had his music in Blockbuster Hollywood films.
Alec Empire is louder than My Bloody Valentine or Motorhead. When he feels like it.
“Alec Empire/Atari Teenage Riot: 16 Years of Videomaterial” (2xDVD)
It’s true: Musicians like Patrick Wolf, Crystal Castles or London’s upcoming hype Big Pink have referenced Alec Empire or ATR.
Alec Empire is many things to many people:
– The charismatic front man of Atari Teenage Riot (German magazine SPEX even called him “the first true German popstar”)
– The innovative and intellectual electronic music producer who, very similar to Brain Eno or Aphex Twin, would perform at classical music halls and score films.
– The guitar wizard during his phase for the album “Futurist”.
He simply does not fit in. He always manages to keep his integrity. This made him win a massive audience over all the years.
Alec Empire will also premiere new material from his next album “2010” (to be released in the 2nd half of 2009).
Dave Grohl was quoted in Kerrang Magazine saying that Alec Empire “had done something with this music so radical that nothing afterward will survive.”
Indeed a very good reason to go and see him and make up your own mind!
Wreckage Sound System
Wreckage is a sound system, lacking in equipment but never in spirit. Even without a generator, it never loses its energy. In other words, Wreckage is the guttersnipe that enjoys putting spokes into wheels and will never grow up. Don’t miss the journey in streets.
Vayb was founded in 2013 in Istanbul, to introduce the city to new sounds, with the motto “All sounds will rise in Istanbul”.
Prominent 20th century composer, writer and artist John Cage has broadened the definition of music with his concept of “All Sounds”. Via a reference to Cage’s concept “All Sounds”, Vayb seeks to remind that music is a vital and dynamic medium of communication that is alive and as life itself constantly transformed. A large megapol with over 15 million people, the city of Istanbul, with its rhthym and noise, resembles a giant concert hall and contains within itself, this living music in flux.
In these times, when due to advance of technology everything one desires can be at their finger tips and our world shrinks and accelerates to the point that we can no longer find the time to listen to the sounds of our cities or even each other, with its concert, festival, exhibition and party organisations Vayb hopes to present all lovers of sounds the temporary refuge of collective experiences of listening, revelling, dancing, being moved to tears or laughter, or to put it quite simply, of sharing.
Vayb is a synthesis of the generation that used to wait for two days for new music CD’s that would reach our country with several years of delay to be copied to casette tapes and the generation that can reach a new work of music, the minute it is broadcasted. As such Vayb aims to be connected with all sounds and bring a fresh vibrancy to the already dynamic city of Istanbul
